Renovators Kyal & Kara showcase the value of a mortgage broker

As part of the MFAA campaign to help consumers learn more about the value of a Mortgage Broker, high-profile Central Coast renovators Kyal and Kara Demmrich have become ambassadors endorsing the third-party finance channel.

Former contestants on The Block and regulars on The Living Room, Kyal and Kara have built a huge following on social media due to their renovation and property portfolio. Throughout their property journey, Kyal and Kara have used a Central Coast mortgage broker to secure their finance for their various projects. “The biggest thing for us about using a mortgage broker, is it keeps it really personable, we can call our own mortgage broker, we feel there is a certain depth of connection that you don’t really get with the big banks”, said Kyal in a recent interview with the MFAA.

Kara said having a mortgage broker is knowing someone’s got your back and making sure you’re getting the right deal for you. “There’s not many investments in life where you wouldn’t shop around and having a mortgage broker is like having someone help you shop around.”

The MFAA has proactively promoted mortgage brokers off the back of some negativity steaming from the Royal Banking Commission and media outlets such as the ABC incorrectly reporting how mortgage brokers are qualified.

MFAA CEO, Mike Fenton said it was important the mortgage broking reputation was repaired and that the industry drives positive consumer outcomes, choice and fairness. “In developing this campaign, our objective is to portray the broking channel in a positive light, with an emphasis on choice, fairness and empowering consumers. The campaign is not specifically designed to sell broking services; rather, it is designed to drive positive sentiment and advocacy.

Mortgage brokers the choice for 55.7% of home loans

In 2017 Mortgage Brokers helped Australians secure finance for more than half of all home loans and over half a million home loans were settled by the broker network.

Over the last five years, Mortgage Brokers have weakened the dominance of the major lenders and increased competition by increasing the proportion of their business with second-tier and non-bank lenders.

National campaign kicks off

The national advertising campaign was launched on 7 July by the MFAA and was designed to promote and defend the industry. The campaign will highlight the value each of you delivers to your customers – Australian home buyers – and our economy.
